4/5

This Spanish film is purely, simply, and wonderfully an homage to gratuitous violence. The story, character, and plot lines are basic, but all the better to not get in the way of a near non-stop barrage of gory and glorious mayhem and carnage. Let’s call it “John Wick de Espana” as it comes very close, if not matches John Wick in intensity (though not quite in style and sophistication), and may actually top it (the first one) in total body count. Without question, it also raises the bar for the number of different ways to slay enemies . . . so it has that going for it . . . which is nice. Obviously, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if the mood strikes for a no frills, no limits, and thoroughly enjoyable violent action romp that delivers both the bloodshed and the cathartic experience we hope for in a revenge thriller, you can’t go wrong with this one.
