Why eight movies? I don’t know. Charlie did it last time and I’m nothing if not a follower of trends. I was challenged to do a list of Dwayne Johnson movies and I said, “challenge accepted!”

I have seen twenty-four Dwayne Johnson movies. That is not all an inclusive list. I have seen none of the Jumanji or Journey flicks, didn’t see Gem and the Holograms, or The Tooth Fairy. This is simply eight of my favorite DJ movies. Neither does this list include Ballers, which, let’s be honest, is damn good. But Ballers is not a movie.

Between you and me, reader, it wasn’t really a challenge. If someone can’t find love in their heart for The Rock then the problem really is with them. And you can bet your sweet ass I’m cranking Apollo 440 the entire time I’m writing this.

Baywatch (2017)

This is straight up brain candy. I am not ashamed to admit I own this flick. It’s stupid funny, full of action and, well, too small bathing suits. Plus, Pryanka Chopra is the bad guy! It’s better than Christmas!

Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

Listen, if you can’t get with Dwayne Johnson AND Jason Staitham headlining a movie then I don’t know what to tell you. Enjoy your pretentious art house crap, I guess. Did I mention Black Superman is in the house? This is a fun movie.

Walking Tall (2004)

“I want someone who can trust that my big hands are going to take care of them.” – Dwayne Johnson. This movie is those words on celluloid. Good guy The Rock saves an entire town and a pretty little blonde. My heart just grew three sizes.

Postscript – don’t @ me with your ‘the original was better!’ The only good movies from the 70s are Star Wars and The Godfather 1 & 2. I said what I said!

San Andreas (2015)

If I’m honest I only watched this for Carla Gugino. It’s another brain candy movie with lots of destruction and fun and Dwayne Johnson doing DJ stuff like saving the people he loves and whipping out pithy little one liners.

The Rundown (2003)

This is legitimately the first movie I watched simply because The Rock is in it. There are elements of this flick in all of the movies on this list. Funny one liners, DJ punching people for being annoying, and at least one bad ass woman saving The Rock’s ass at some point. That combo will get me every single time.

Central Intelligence (2016)

First off, Dwayne Johnson was willing to laugh at himself in this movie. That is always something that will make me lean in as a movie fan. Secondly, it’s fun! You will be entertained and isn’t that what movies are all about?

Doom (2005)

The movie that started it all for me. I saw this in the theater (before I’d ever watched The Rundown) because I am a gamer and Doom is my jam. I know this movie got panned, but I do not care. It was fun, and gory, and violent and The Rock was such a good bad guy. I wanted to see him in other things after this.

Fighting With My Family (2019)

DJ has a minor roll as The Rock in this, but this movie is the one on this list is flat out just a great movie. And The Rock is incredibly human and endearing in this. Plus, this movie introduced me to Florence Pugh and that young woman is a revelation. Watch this movie.

Rudy Martinez

The classic, if not cliche, trifecta of writer, former stand-up comedian, and licensed boat captain, Rudy spends most days in a library.
