Short Film Saturday! (Monday because my internet was out all weekend)
This week’s movie is Brotherhood. An absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful movie by Meryam Joobeur and Maria Gracia Turgeon.
A Tunisian rancher, his wife, and his two youngest sons are all surprised by the return of his eldest boy from the war in Syria with his new, pregnant wife.
The initial joy of the baby brothers and momma is juxtaposed against dad’s cold reception. As the movie plays out we learn exactly why dad disapproves and his anger and disappointment leads to a gut-wrenching decision. All of this is happening against the beautiful backdrop of their coastal Tunisian ranch. The rich story telling and gorgeous aesthetic … it is no coincidence that this is the first five star movie in my list.
This is honestly the best movie I have seen in a long, long time. You must watch this movie.
